| The Pain Cascade |
We have experience in assessing and treating patients suffering from many debilitating conditions. Some of these conditions include, but are not limited to TBI's, chronic migraines, headaches, neck and back pain, shoulder/upper extremity pain, joint paint, sciatica and post-operative pain. We utilize our years of experience to ensure you receive thoughtful and effective treatment modalities for your specific issue in a non-invasive manner.
Whiplash
Whiplash from car accidents can lead common neck dysfunction such as muscle strains, cervicalgia, ligament sprains, vertebrae fixations/malpositions, nerve root compression, and concussions. These may affect an individuals' ability to perform necessary daily activities, including but not limited to safely operating a motor vehicle, walking up and down a flight of stairs, lifting heavy objects and performing manual labor.
TBI - ( Sx: Headaches, nausea, fatigue, dizziness )
Known as a "Traumatic Brain Injury," TBI's often lead to temporary (and in some cases permanent) disability, and can range from mild to severe. Common sequelae with TBI's: Headaches, nausea, fatigue, dizziness or imbalance, memory or concentration compromise, mood changes including bouts of rage, among other symptoms. We have extensive experience in working with those who have suffered or are suffering from a TBI.
Headaches or Migraines
Headaches can be dibiliating and require a patient take high dose NSAIDS to turn off the COX-2 receptor, essentially just masking the pain while negatively impacting the liver and gut microbiome. Treating headaches before they become chronic can save patients months of pain and suffering.
Sciatica
All too often the sciatic nerve becomes compromised and compressed after an automobile accident or slip and fall scenario. And in an attempt to mask the pain, we subconsciously compensate our gait pattern in order to prevent pain, leading to assymetry and the issue getting worse. Utilizing techniques to properly engage the surrounding muscles in support of the sciatic nerve and adjusting the lumbar vertebrae regularly, is a recipe for diminishing sciatic pain yielding a good prognosis and outcome.
Herniated or Bulging Disc
A common condition where the disc space in between the vertebrae becomes compromised, and either partially or fully ruptures the nucleus pulposus gelatenous (inner layer/portion) and/or the annular fibrosis (outer protective layer), causing a protrusion into the spinal cord and/or nerve(s). This may also cascade and lead to another condition known as radiculopathy, where the nerve root becomes impinged causing a radiating symptom toward the endpoint of the nerve. One example of this is when the right "C6" nerve/nerve root becomes compromised, it will generally cause a numbing or tingling sensation through the right upper extremity to the right thumb.
Back Pain
Back pain can stem from a wide variety of conduits. Ranging from a decade old injury that has began compromising the integrity of the musculoskeletal system due to that injury never being managed properly or resolved, to a recent auto accident causing a muscle strain and spondylopathy.
Neck Pain
While neck pain has many causes, one common cause other than experiencing a form of traumatic injury is known as anterior head carriage or "tech neck" due to muscles of the musculoskeletal system adapting to an unwanted normalcy in the way we sit and stare in a compromised position too often. Our bodies can withstand and adapt to these unwanted positions, with the result being a neck curvature that encloses the nerves or nerve roots and is compressed by surrounding tissues.
